Did you know the codes which identify First Aid Training Courses were changed from July 1st 2021?
If you have previously done first aid training before this date and need to update your training, you might find yourself getting confused.
If you search for the old training codes, some websites do not display them any more and so you might be unsure which course you need to do now. To make things more confusing most of the names of the courses have not changed, ONLY the codes.
So if you search by the course name you might find the right course but if you search by the course code, you might not. And not many people remember either the correct course code or the exact name of the course that they did, especially if it was a while ago.
We hope this article provides a clear and simple explanation of the old codes and the new codes, so you can easily choose which is the right course for you to do.
Note: It is the last 3 numbers only of the course codes which have changed.
Here are all the changes to the first aid course codes:
HLTAID001 - PROVIDE CPR (becomes HLTAID009)
This is the standard course that provides full training in all aspects of learning how to apply CPR. The new code for this course is HLTAID009.
HLTAID003 - PROVIDE FIRST AID (becomes HLTAID011)
This is the standard comprehensive first aid course that includes all of the above CPR training. The new code for this course is HLTAID011.
HLTAID004 - PROVIDE FIRST AID IN EDUCATION & CHILD CARE (becomes HLTAID012)
This is similar to the first aid course above but has different materials and emphasis for people who work in education and childcare. The new code for this course is HLTAID012.
What you really need to know about these new course codes.
The most important thing to recognise is that all EXISTING first aid certificates remain valid for their original duration.
So, if you have an existing qualification in First Aid, CPR or Child Care First Aid for example, that was due to expire in 6 months time, you do not have to retrain until just before the certificate’s original expiry date occurs.
Now you may not remember the name or code of the first aid course you originally did, and which course code applies but all you do have to remember is that the new codes DO NOT affect existing qualifications.
However for all new training after July 1st 2021, these new course codes apply.
(This is a government run system of course codes and the new codes reflect some modifications to the content of the courses, but again that does not make the old course invalid.)
